Behind the Brand

From a Back Room to a Beauty Empire — The Lipstick & Locks Journey

By Abi, Founder of Lipstick & Locks

Nine years ago, I started Lipstick & Locks in a small back room, fuelled by passion and a dream. I spotted a gap in the market — a space where luxury, beauty, and a social vibe could exist in harmony. I imagined a place where clients could have their hair and makeup done while enjoying a cocktail, in a setting that felt indulgent, stylish, and welcoming. So I created exactly that — my dream salon experience.

Opening our flagship store in Sudbury took blood, sweat, and tears… but it was worth every second. That dream quickly became a reality — and it worked.

Today, Lipstick & Locks has grown into four thriving branches, an separate bridal hair & makeup company and a team of over 60 incredibly talented professionals. From stylists to beauty therapists, MUA’s to nail techs, we are proud to be home to some of the very best in the business. Together, we’ve built more than just salons — we’ve built a family, and a community.

Our clients aren’t just customers — they’re friends. Our salons are alive with atmosphere, creativity, and love. Every detail, from the interior design to the lighting to those extra-special touches, is crafted with intention and care. I believe it’s those things that set Lipstick & Locks apart.

As the business has grown, so has my role. I’ve gone from being full-time behind the chair to leading the company forward, making sure we stay at the top of our game. This industry is fast-moving — you can’t take your eye off the ball, and you can never take success for granted.

Would I open more salons? Never say never.
